Crypto 101 · Lesson 1 of 3
Coins vs tokens
A coin runs on its own blockchain — Bitcoin on the Bitcoin network, Ether on Ethereum.
A token is built on top of someone else's blockchain. Thousands of tokens run on Ethereum and similar networks.
When you send a token, the network matters. Sending on the wrong network is one of the most common ways people lose funds.
Key points
- Coins have their own blockchain
- Tokens live on another chain
- Always match the network when sending
Education only, not financial advice. Crypto is risky — only use money you can afford to lose, and check it’s legal where you live.
